Our focus is on creative problem
solving that addresses how a product or service is presented in
all its visual forms... from logos to print to web design. Depending
on the project, here are several questions to ask in this process:
What is the business,
its product or service, the benefits of it, its customers, its
competition and its goals? Who is the target market? What are
you trying to achieve?
Getting into the mind of the end customer and
making a connection with them that builds a relationship with them
and draws results; that's where design really goes to work for
the client. Then it's just the application of a solid understanding
of graphic design, advertising, technology, production, and useability.
In addition to conceptual and strategic thinking, I'm well seasoned
in the printing process (yes, I love the smell of ink in a press
room) as well as web production. Adobe CS2 is my toolset of choice.
WEBSITES
If you want a website, Do you have existing specs to your project
and know what you want? Great. That expedites matters and reduces
your cost. Or do you need help in defining your specifications?
Depending on the complexity of your project, I'm also available
as a project manager role, to thoroughly review the possibilities
through a discovery phase involving research and creative problem
solving to culminate into a proposal focused on meeting your goals
on time and within budget. The proposal would include detailed
specifications, the process involved, costs, and a schedule. However,
I'm a graphic designer foremost. Project managemet is an added
value service..
Once a web proposal is approved with a sign-off, we move into
the design phase. Any specified supporting material will be created
or gathered at this time... photography, copywriting, 3rd party
artwork, mailing lists etc. Hosting is set up for web projects.
Then prepare your self for the "WOW" factor. At first
this includes screenshots, and initial concepts or "looks" to
your particular project.
Once the look and design of the site is approved, it's down to
the nuts and bolts of production. Web pages are laid out, built,
coded and debugged. Then one final approval is all that's left
before going live.

PRINT WORK
Little bits of knowledge go a long way,...
Did you know that the resolution for
a newsprint ad is lower than that of a glossy magazine? Did you
know that if you send an image to a newspaper that's higher resolution
than needed, your image will print dark? Also, if you send a
file in RGB to the press it'll just print out on the black plate?
That can be very dissapointing and a costly mistake once it
gets on a very expensive press.
Printing ink has seeped into my blood. I love the smell of the
press room, the feel of paper, and the subtlety of a spot varnish.
Having started in a print shop while in college, handing plates
to pressmen, back when they still did galley paste-ups, and having
worked later doing digital pre-press at a commercial printer, I
know what works and what to avoid when it comes to print. I also
do what I can to keep up with current technology where I rely on
some savve print reps to keep me educated. Some things stay the
same, but other things in the industry changes constantly.
Once your design(s) is approved, it is fine-tuned,
proofed, and pre-flighted... after which I would ask for one last
sign-off or written approval before sending to the printer. If
you coordinate the printing yourself, I'd recommend getting a proof
from them as well. It's most cost efficient to be extra careful
and catch any problems at all before it goes on the press.
Overall, high standards in project
management and a diligent desire for quality control insures
my clients and their clients the very best service.
