HRMC prepares to open The Women’s Center at HRMC

Hendry Regional Medical Center plans to open The Women’s Center in Suite E of the Multi-Specialty Building on October 1, 2003. This program will bring much needed gynecological services to the female residents of Hendry County. The recently completed Master Plan highlights Gynecology as a needed specialty for HRMC. Under the Medical Directorship of Dr. Mona Devanesan, the Women’s Center will offer general gynecological services, minor in-office procedures, diagnostic services such as Mammography and Bone Density, as well as preventative healthcare services. With The Women’s Center women will not have to be leave Hendry County to obtain basic gynecological and diagnostic services. The Women’s Center which is on the campus of Hendry Regional Medical Center is conveniently located and will offer a comfortable and private environment.

In addition to enhancing healthcare services in the community, the addition of the Women’s Center will broaden HRMC’s service mix with profitable services and will allow HRMC to capture a portion of the patients leaving Hendry County for gynecological services.

Several studies have proven that women are the purchasers of healthcare for their families, thus, by becoming the provider of choice for women’s services, HRMC stands a better chance of further stemming the significant out-migration for other services.

Hours of Operation
Dr. Mona Devanesan will see patients at the Center every Tuesday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Diagnostic services (Bone Density, Mammography) will be available during the following hours:

Do You Know?
The American population is 64 percent overweight and 31 percent obese. The government predicts that by 2008 nine percent of us will be obese. Nothing while you are awake takes less energy than watching TV.

One out of 5 children are overweight? Children who watch 5 hours or more of TV a day are 5 times more likely to be overweight than those who watch less than 2 hours daily. American children spend an average of 6 hours and 32 minutes a day watching TV, playing video games and using the computer.

Fewer than 1 in 4 children get vigorous physical activity every day of the week?

That more and more children are being diagnosed with Type 2 (adult onset) Diabetes, have high cholesterol and high blood pressure?

That 80 percent of Hendry County residents eat less than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily?

That 52 percent of Hendry County residents get no regular moderate physical activity?

According to Mr. Steve Stinnett, “The Principals seemed pleased with the Healthfair and we are certainly grateful for all HRMC’s hard work to make this happen. I will be looking forward to working with you in the future.

At the Forefront of Telemedicine—A HRMC First Hospital in Florida to apply Telemedicine to Pharmacy Services

Hendry Regional Medical Center has taken one more step in improving service and quality patient care. On August 26, Hendry Regional Medical Center became the first hospital in the State of Florida to offer on-line pharmacy services. Through a partnership with Cardinal Health, Hendry Regional Medical Center will provide patients with the benefit of real-time pharmacist review of medications, even after-hours when the pharmacy is typically closed.

According to Dr. Sandy Woodall, Hendry Regional Medical Center’s Director of Pharmacy, “in addition to enhancing medication safety and improving pharmacy services, the Rxe-source program will provide us with a very economical method for pharmacist coverage”. Dr. Woodall noted that the nurses and physicians are very pleased with the improved service. Dr. Woodall spearheaded the effort for Hendry Regional Medical Center and was very instrumental in bringing the service to Hendry Regional Medical Center.

According to John Yanes, CEO, “we are very pleased with the work Sandy has done. Clearly, technology and telemedicine offer rural hospitals a significant opportunity to improve service quality and better serve our patients. Technology will allow Hendry Regional Medical Center to provide an increasing array of services here at home and assist us in overcoming the significant staffing issues faced by most rural hospitals”.

Hendry Regional Medical Center, licensed for 66-beds, is the only acute-care hospital located in Hendry County serving primarily residents from Hendry and Glades counties. HRMC is a statutory rural hospital located in Clewiston, Florida which is on the southwest shore of Lake Okeechobee. HRMC recently completed a master planning process which examined present healthcare trends and project healthcare needs within its service area.

Cardinal Health, the leading provider of products and services supporting the health care industry, today announced that it has launched Rxe-source, a new pharmacy initiative aimed at addressing the pharmacy staffing, medication safety and patient care challenges facing many hospitals. Two south Texas hospitals, Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond, TX and Mission Hospital in the McAllen, TX area, were part of a successful pilot project and have fully implemented Rxe-source throughout their facility.

Rxe-source is the company’s innovative, Internet-driven pharmacy service that enables health care providers such as Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital and Mission Hospital to maintain 24-hour pharmaceutical care for all of their patients, resulting in improved patient care while also achieving cost savings. Rxe-source works by connecting hospital staff to a qualified, experienced pharmacist at Cardinal Health’s remotely located support center through a secure Internet connection located at the nurses’ station during those hours that the hospital pharmacy is normally closed. The Rxe-source pharmacist is then able to immediately review the prescription orders and patient records, verify the accuracy of the order and enter it into the system to be remotely dispensed at the hospital. Mission Hospital and Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital were sites for the successful pilot test of Rxe-source, supported by the Texas State Pharmacy Board.

Hospitals are under increasing pressure to provide quality pharmaceutical care and Cardinal Health’s Rxe-source provides numerous benefits. It enhances medication safety by providing access to qualified pharmacists on a 24-hour basis. Pharmacy coverage and service are improved through the real-time availability of additional pharmacist support. Rxe-source expands pharmacy staffing options by providing temporary outside staffing which can also help reduce costs. In addition, the program frees up hospital staff to focus on other critical functions.
